Reporting and takedowns
PhotoNations attributes photographs to named people. That is the point of the site, and it is also what makes misattribution worth taking seriously. There are two ways to raise a problem, depending on who you are.
If you have an account
Open any photograph full screen and use Report. Tell us why — work that is not the uploader's own, AI-generated images, anything that is not a photograph. Reports are private: they go to moderators and are never shown on the photographer's profile or counted publicly, because a visible report count is itself a way to smear someone.
If you are the copyright holder
You do not need an account. Email takedown@photonations.com with:
- 01A link to the page on this site where the work appears.
- 02Identification of the work — where the original is published, or another way to establish it is yours.
- 03Your name and contact details.
- 04A statement that you believe in good faith the use is not authorised by you, your agent, or the law.
- 05A statement that the information in your notice is accurate, and that you are the rights holder or authorised to act for them.
- 06Your signature, electronic or physical.
What happens next
We aim to acknowledge notices within three working days. Where a claim is clear, the image is removed from public view while it is reviewed — unpublishing is reversible, so we would rather do it early than late.
The photographer is told what was removed and why, and may respond. If a profile drops below the minimum number of approved images, it stops appearing on the map and in rankings until it is back above the line.
Accounts that repeatedly upload work that is not their own are removed, along with any standings or badges earned with it.
Competition entries
Work that reaches a season shortlist is spot-checked with reverse image search before results are published. A confirmed problem at that stage removes the entry from the season and any points it contributed.
